Our agenda:

The Microfibre Roadmap sets the pace of activity for working on The Microfibre 2030 Commitment: towards zero impact from fibre fragmentation to the natural environment by 2030. The Microfibre Roadmap details the path forward and the specific steps we will take to meet our commitment, setting out clear milestones.

The agenda is necessarily ambitious and can only be fulfilled through a combination of coordinated collective action and secure funding. It is not set in stone, and will evolve as knowledge and tools develop.

The Microfibre Roadmap is built around 3 interconnected pillars :

  1. Aligning the sector – bringing together manufacturers, brands, retailers, third-party laboratories, other multi-stakeholder initiatives, scientists and industry experts into global alignment is key to achieving the goals of The Microfibre Roadmap. The Microfibre 2030 Commitment is the platform that underpins this alignment

  2. Understanding fragmentation – The continual research and knowledge building within this pillar, through peer-reviewed primary and desk-based research, provides evidence and insights to drive the root-cause understanding of fibre fragmentation. This research based pillar is the enabler of a science-led approach.

  3. Mitigating fragmentation- will enable the sector to take meaningful action at pace. It is very much underpinned by the other two pillars and becomes the interface for industry change whether that be through root-cause change, or end of pipe solutions.

The Microfibre Roadmap is split in 3 phases:

  • Activate (2021-2023)

  • Implement (2024-2027)

  • Scale (2028-2030)

Currently, it is in its activation phase, creating the foundations of primary research, tools and resources that will enable implementation from 2024 onwards.
