“We all know that a comprehensive change in the legislative landscape is imminent. The topic of microfibre is included in this and obliges us to take an even closer look at our materials. TMC enables us to measure our microfibre output, make comparisons and develop measures to make our laminates even more sustainable. As a result, we are prepared for the upcoming legislation and we also get to know our own products better, working together to develop current solutions”
Fees
Our core funding is received from signatory fees, which enables The Microfibre Consortium to finance its team and primary operations, as well as foundational research enquiries.
We will connect you to TMC accredited testing laboratories to enable you to arrange your fabric testing.
How else can I contribute to reducing the impact of microfibre pollution?
There is a role for everyone and active, industry-wide engagement is needed to address the multi-faceted challenge of microfibre pollution. However, the pace of progress is limited by the availability of additional funds. To reach the ambitious milestones of the Microfibre Roadmap, we are actively seeking additional funding to support specific workstreams which aim to further understand and prevent future microfibre release to the environment.

The Microfibre 2030 Commitment forms a common ambition shared with our community of signatories, to work towards zero impact from fibre fragmentation from textiles to the natural environment by 2030. The Microfibre Roadmap sets the pace of activity and the specific steps required for working on the commitment. It details the path forward and sets out clear milestones against three inter-related pillars: aligning the sector, understanding fragmentation and mitigating fragmentation.

Signatories gain access to resources such as in-house research, monthly literature reviews, guest seminars, policy support, e-learning courses, dashboard reports to contextualise test results, and more. There are also many opportunities for signatory learning and development. For example; participation in topic task teams focusing on research priority areas, development of case studies to enable signatory-to-signatory learning and providing input to help shape industry resources.
